The Farm at Cape Kidnappers is not only one of New Zealand's best luxury accommodations, it's also one of our well-travelled team's favourite destinations - anywhere in the world.
Read on to find out why...
On a headland in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay wine region, a craggy peninsula protrudes 8 kilometres into the Pacific Ocean. From the peninsula, 800-foot cliffs plunge into the sea. This is the stunning Cape Kidnappers.
On this very special piece of land is The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, one of the world's best 5-star luxury lodges, so named because it is actually set on the lush, rolling pasture of a working sheep and cattle farm. The 6,000-acre property is one of the most staggering private farms in all of New Zealand.
The Lodge - Farm Luxe
Driving up to the lodge, you'll see what looks like a cluster of farm buildings dotted into the landscape, and a central lodge building that's reminiscent of a barn, with a massive industrial silo.
The lodge is a testament to high country character and comfort, with interior architecture that combines rustic and textured materials with comfortable, classically-designed furniture.

The gigantic silo has been transformed into a beautifully-decorated snug, with 180-degree panoramas of the farmland and the Pacific Ocean
The main lodge building includes several grand lounges and stylish dining rooms for you to enjoy, each with open fires, industrial candelabras and tall, exposed-beam ceilings. The common areas have all been designed specifically to enjoy unparalleled ocean views.
The Dining Experience
Expect inspired, modern cuisine that celebrates the best of seasonal local produce (including from the lodge's own large vegetable garden). The Pastry Chef makes everything from scratch - including divine breads, french pastries and sweet treats.
Your lodge experience includes a generous gourmet breakfast each morning (with healthy and on-holiday-indulgent choices aplenty!). Every evening, meet in the main lodge building and take part in pre-dinner drinks, enjoying canapes and a drink or two in front of an open fire or with that amazing ocean view - this is a wonderful way to meet fellow guests.
The dinner menu changes nightly and showcases the very best of New Zealand lamb and beef, as well as mouthwatering fresh seafood. Enjoy your courses in the main dining room, or request a private setting for two in the snug, or perhaps in the rich and romantic atmosphere of the lodge's wine cellar.
Each year, the lodge hosts an array of internationally acclaimed celebrity chefs, who join guests for a weekend. Guests are invited to meet and chat to the guest chefs, enjoying their convivial company and their innovative menu (alongside matching wine, of course).

The suites at Cape Kidnappers are better described as 'farm luxe' cottages - they are spacious, beautifully-appointed, and decorated in the signature Cape Kidnappers style. Every suite has its' own private balcony, enjoying sweeping views of the rolling farmland and the Pacific Ocean.
The bathrooms feature oversized baths (imagine soaking in a bubble bath, wine in hand, as you gaze out over the sea... heaven!) and twin vanities.
The luxury mini bar (full wet bar) is stocked with New Zealand's best gourmet snacks, and the Cape Kidnappers team provides fresh home baking every day, too - watch out, their brownies are addictive!

If you're able, take the opportunity to stay in the property's premiere accommodation - the four-bedroom Owner’s Cottage. Architects designed the dwelling so that guests could take in amazing views from every room of the house.
Every bedroom has its own fireplace and walk-in wardrobe, and there is also a large, lush lounge (with a huge stone fireplace), two small but sumptuous sitting rooms, and a gorgeously big kitchen and dining room. Enjoy your breakfast out on the sunny terrace, or watch the sky glow pink as the sunsets from the Owner's Cottage Jacuzzi.

The 6000 acre private farm on which this luxury accommodation sits is your playground to explore during your stay.
There are numerous excellent hiking trails to be walked, with waterfalls to discover. Or explore the land by horse back - we can arrange a guided horse trek for you during your stay. Ask us to arrange a picnic hamper... imagine open a bottle of the region's best wine and sharing a gourmet lunch from the crest of a high ridge, nothing below or before you but the expanse of the blue sea.
Explore this land, and hear about its rich history, in the comfort of a luxury four-wheel drive, or -if you're a little more adventurous - on a Can Am! The lodge also has quality mountain bikes for guests to enjoy, and plenty of biking trails.
One of the most popular things to do between the months of November to April, is the exclusive Kiwi Discovery Walk. As a guest you will be able to take your family out into the natural bush to view our treasured native bird, the Kiwi. Led by an experienced guide, you'll locate their natural habitat and even be able to hold one. A truly unique experience.

As if this place couldn't get any more incredible...
Cape Kidnappers is also home to the world's largest mainland gannet colony. These large yet very graceful birds roam the open ocean for months on end, returning to a small spot at the top of the Cape's sheer and barren cliffs between September and May each year to nest. Visit the colony to see the majesty of these birds in flight, and you may even get to see hatchlings.
Superb views from the infinity pool and cabana
Back at the lodge, you'll find a heated infinity pool to wile away a sunny afternoon.
The Cape Kidnappers Spa, nestled into a hillside above the lodge, invites you to relax and rejuvenate with a suite of luxury spa and beauty treatments on offer. The 5-star treatments include massage and reflexology, body wraps, facials, manis and pedis, and hair care.

Forget about the luxury accommodation and five star cuisine, people would stay here in tents just to access the world-renowned Cape Kidnappers Golf Course.
Designed by legendary golf architect Tom Doak, Cape Kidnappers is celebrated as one of the great modern marvels in golf, and is ranked the 16th best gold course in the world.
The award-winning par 71, 18-hole course will challenge golfers of all skill levels. You'll play along the edges of deep ravines, have to make the perilous leap from the end of one ridge to the end of the next several times, and at the 15th hole - Pirate's Plank - you'll be standing 800 ft. above the Ocean with perilous drops on both sides. Go long over the green and your ball will sail for 14 seconds before splashing into the Pacific Ocean!
After your game, freshen up in the well-appointed locker rooms and then enjoy the atmosphere (and more of those amazing views) in the luxury Clubhouse and dining room.
