Luxury New Zealand Accommodation: The Landing

In the sparkling Bay of Islands of New Zealand's tropical Far North, nestled on the pristine Purerua Peninsula, you'll find a spectacular luxury retreat. This is The Landing, where remote landscapes meet truly world-leading hospitality.

The Landing encompasses 1000 acres of private land, boasting six beautiful beaches, an award-winning vineyard, and four extraordinary, exclusive Residences in which to stay. This property, and the world-class experience it offers, is the vision and personal passion of Peter Cooper, a New Zealander who divides his time between New Zealand and the United States.

The Residences

The Residences at The Landing  - Cooper Residence, Gabriel Residence, Vineyard Villa and The Boat House - were each designed by acclaimed New Zealand architects Nat and Pip Cheshire. Each one has a unique and modern aesthetic, richly textured and superbly furnished, and home to considered collections of contemporary New Zealand art and rare historic artefacts.

While each residence enjoys its own striking design elements and bespoke features, each is designed and positioned to bask in stunning views of the sparkling sea and surrounding farmland.

All boast expansive entertainers kitchens and dining spaces, generous lounge and living spaces that flow seamlessly outdoors, large and luxurious bedroom suites and bathroom suites, and well-designed spaces and intimate corners in which to relax and enjoy your residence's unique outlook.

The Dining

Everything about a stay at The Landing is centred around you, the guest. This philosophy extends to the exceptional food and beverage experience. There are no set menus, no fixed meal times, and no designated dining areas here - and we find that so refreshing.

Breakfast with a view

Premium New Zealand lamb

Choose to self cater (there are honey and olive oil farms nearby, an artisan bakery, an award-winning cheese and yoghurt maker, and a boutique chocolatier!) or be hosted by one of The Landing's personal chefs, who will custom-design and prepare daily menus to suit your needs.

Afternoon 'tea' with The Landing's own wines

Garden-to-plate dining is a big focus at The Landing, with produce that makes beautiful use of the The Landing's vegetable and herb gardens, orchards and free-range eggs. In season, you have the opportunity to catch your own fish, or go diving for crayfish and scallops in nearby coves.

Fresh-caught fish

Choose to have a fabulous meal set up in one of your residence's many dining and entertaining areas - indoors or al fresco - or one of the many gorgeous locations around the property - a private beach, outdoor terraces and courtyards, under the vines or even on the private jetty.

The Wine

The story of The Landing Wines began 10 years ago with the planting of Chardonnay and Syrah. Today, the vineyard produces outstanding Rosé, Syrah and Chardonnay, and plantings have expanded over recent years to also include Sangiovese, Pinot Gris, Montepulciano, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

The Landing Wines have received several significant accolades. Guests are invited to visit the wine cellar with the vineyard manager and taste wines from the vineyard.

The Experiences

Your vacation at The Landing can be anything you want it to be, from non-stop adventure and action, to complete peace, privacy and tranquility.

The Landing's own boats are available for skippered use, offering you the opportunity to get out and explore some of the 144 islands of the Bay of Islands. This corner of the earth is a oceanic playground, and some of the world's most spectacular (no exaggeration!) game fishing, sailing and wreck diving is within easy reach.

If you're after a slower pace, paddle-boarding or snorkelling in calm quiet waters, world-class golf, luxury spa treatments, yoga and pilates all await you here.

The Landing stands on some of the most historically significant land in New Zealand - numerous early Maori settlements were located here, and the region played a key role in early colonial history. Explore the property with one of The Landing's hospitable and knowledgable team (by foot, mountain bike or 4WD vehicle), and discover The Landings rich spiritual history and many natural and historical treasures - important archaeological sites, restored wetlands, native bird sanctuaries, fascinating Maori culture, and much more.
